Pace and Mathews star as legendary vaudevillian comedy duo Lewis & Clark who performed on stage, screen and television for forty-three years under the moniker “The Sunshine Boys”. Willie Clark resents Al Lewis for walking out on the team immediately after performing on the Ed Sullivan Show, forcing Clark into retirement. Now, it’s eleven years later and CBS is inviting the “Boys” to reunite for a special on the history of comedy, with the pair representing the vaudeville era at its best. Septuagenarian Clark is convinced by his nephew Ben, who is also his agent, to revive Lewis & Clark’s signature routine “The Doctor Will See You Now” one last time. Can the two, who haven’t spoken in twelve years, come back together for one last time without killing one another?
The Sunshine Boys is pure Neil Simon – quick comedic “set-up and knock-down” dialogue and sympathetic snapshots of these two men take the audience for a thrilling rollercoaster ride from curtain up until curtain call. Directed by veteran stage/screen actor Michael Cornelison (director, Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor, 2007 CHANGE) - the cast features John Robinson (CAUCUS: The Musical) as Ben Silverman, and includes Brendan Dunphy (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), Tammy Brice, and Roni Dixon.
